Jade is a general term used to describe two types of minerals, the jadeite(sodium aluminum silicate) and nephrite(calcium magnesium iron silicate). Both are well known for its durability and lustre. Evidence of the use of Jade dates back to the Stone Age when it was used as weapons and farming tools. It is a metamorphic rock formed in subduction zones. When two tectonic plates collide, the other one slides beneath where metamorphic rocks, with intense pressure, heat and minerals, are formed into jade. The value of this precious stone appreciated through out the generations as the demand increased. It has become a symbol of status and power especially in Asia. Jade is carved into jewellery, sculptures and collection pieces.
