Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e., traditional hand-drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. One of the most memorable bosses in this game is Rumor Honeybottoms.

Rumor Honeybottoms is the queen bee who rules over the Insect Kingdom in Inkwell Isle Three. She is one of the bosses that players must defeat to progress in the game. Her stage is a vertical scrolling level, a unique aspect that sets it apart from other boss stages. The battle takes place inside a honeycomb, with the player having to constantly jump on moving platforms to avoid falling while dodging attacks from the queen and her loyal subjects.

Rumor Honeybottoms is not an easy boss to defeat. She has three phases in her boss fight, each more challenging than the last. In the first phase, she attacks by sending out a triangle of honey projectiles and a circular saw blade made of honey. She also has a worker bee that throws bombs from the top of the screen. In the second phase, she transforms into a plane and charges at the player while shooting bullet patterns that require precise movement to dodge. In her final phase, she uses a magic spell to summon a large fist to punch the player, while also launching homing missiles.

Despite the difficulty, defeating Rumor Honeybottoms is a satisfying achievement due to the complexity of her attack patterns and the constant movement required in her stage. Her design and animations are also a highlight, reflecting the 1930s cartoon aesthetic of the game. From her angry expressions to her dramatic transformations, Rumor Honeybottoms is a boss fight that players will not forget easily.
