The most popular tourist attraction in Paris, France, the Eiffel Tower, stands 1063 feet tall and weighs 7,000 tons. Engineer Gustave Eiffel and his team of 132 workers put together prefabricated Iron and metal pieces in 2 years, 2 months and 5days (1887 to 1889). The base pillars are oriented with the points of the compass and has 1710 steps. The tower was supposed to be a temporary structure but was maintained to hold radio antennas. The Eiffel tower was built to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the French republic but was initially criticised by the French for being a vulgar structure. Surprisingly, only a few months upon it’s opening, the Eiffel tower gained 2 million visitors. Today, the landmark has become a symbol of love and romance.
