The El Capitan Rock Formation rises 7,500 feet above sea level and is located on the north side of the Yosemite valley. It is composed almost entirely of coarse- grained granite. Hiking trails are available around the park to reach the top of the formation. But the more popular means of reaching the peak is by defying gravity and climbing the granite face itself. Every year thousands of rock climbers visit the El Capitan Rock Formation to face the challenge.
