Johnny is a soulful young adult anthropomorphic mountain gorilla, one of the main characters of the computer animated film Sing. He is voiced by Taron Egerton. Having a beautiful singing voice and a passion for music, Johnny grabs the opportunity of joining Buster Moon’s singing contest to express his talent. He keeps his involvement with the competition a secret because this is a complete opposition to his father’s mobster ways. His role as a getaway driver for his father’s crew and the audition schedule causes conflict and leads to the mobsters’ arrest. Johnny finally admits to his father that he does not want the bank-robbing life but to be a singer. He works hard to earn the prize money to bail his father out of jail, even learning how to play the piano. Despite having a successful performance, Johnny is upset because his father disowned him for his passion. He was surprised to see that his father broke out of prison to reconcile and tell him that he is proud of what Johnny has become.
