Umineko no Naku Koro ni (When the Seagulls Cry in English translation) is a Japanese video game based on a murder mystery animated series. It is the first four games in the series and it presents the mystery circumstances surrounding Rokkenjima and the legend of the Golden Witch. It is described as a sound novel, the gameplay requires no player interaction as the game is composed of texts and dialogue.

Beatrice is a witch who claims to have lived for thousands of years and have used magic to cause bizarre murders on the island. She likes black tea and ice cream. Battler Ushiromiya is Beatrice’s rival and the reason why she created her game board. He doesn’t believe in magic but soon enough, he finds himself fighting over something even more precious, the truth behind Beatrice and the world she created.
