The Alpine A523 is a Formula One racing car designed and constructed by the BWT Alpine F1 Team for the 2023 Formula One World Championship. The car was driven by Pierre Gasly, in his first season for the Enstone-based team, and Esteban Ocon.

The A523 was first revealed on 16 February 2023 alongside a special pink livery for the first three races of the season. In advance of the launch, Alpine ran the car through 17 laps shared between Gasly and Ocon at the Silverstone Circuit. The car shared several design cues with the AlphaTauri AT03, where push-rod rear suspension was used in lieu of the A522’s equivalent pull-rod suspension design, as well as rectangular sidepod inlets, flat-shaped nose, and a raised front wing central section.

The A523 represents a very significant evolution to last year’s car, totally rebodied and different from its new front wing and wider nose to its new push rod rear suspension. The car will be driven by Esteban Ocon, who is preparing for his third season in Alpine colours, and new team mate Pierre Gasly, who arrived from AlphaTauri over the winter. The team will run the car in this special pink livery at selected races in 2023.

The car is powered by a Mecachrome-built and assembled Renault E-Tech RE23 1.6 L direct injection V6 turbocharged engine limited to 15,000 RPM in a mid-mounted, rear-wheel drive layout. The car also features a Kinetic and thermal energy recovery system. The fuel for the car is provided by BP and the lubricants are provided by Castrol. The tyres for the car are Pirelli P Zero for dry/slick conditions and Pirelli Cinturato for wet/treaded conditions.

The team is aiming to break into the top three with the A523. Alpine’s A523 represents a very significant evolution to last year’s car, totally rebodied and different from its new front wing and wider nose to its new push rod rear suspension. The team will be hoping that 2023 can yield the next step in their push towards the front of the F1 grid, with the top three now the target after finishing fifth in the constructors’ standings in 2021 and fourth in 2022.

The A523 has already shown promise in its initial runs. Both Ocon and Gasly have shared positive words about their first runs in the A523, with the latter reporting a “very good” feeling. The team noted that the day was issue-free, which bodes well for the upcoming season.
