In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a unique power-up known as the Elephant Fruit makes its debut. This power-up is a red and white fruit, bearing a striking resemblance to an elephant with a trunk and ears. Upon collecting the Elephant Fruit, the player character transforms into a bipedal elephant version of themselves, a form simply known as the Elephant form. This transformation applies to all playable characters, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, Toadette, and others. The transformation is not a suit, but a complete physical transformation, with characters losing their hair and shoes, though Mario and Luigi keep their mustaches and Peach and Daisy keep their eyelashes. The characters also assume different colorations based on their original colors.
The Elephant form provides the player with a range of new abilities. The character can swing their trunk to attack enemies, similar to how Raccoon Mario swings his tail. They can also break through blocks from below or the side, store water in their trunk and spray it on flowers, dash across two-block-wide gaps, and carry large snail shells. The Elephant form also has an effect on the level’s music, changing the lead instrument to brass horns, reminiscent of an elephant trumpeting. Other abilities include holding and throwing large shells, increased strength when pushing movable objects, breaking through multiple layers of blocks from below, collecting multiple coins from brick blocks all at once, and juggling shells or objects in the air repeatedly until they emit coins. The player can also score a combo and earn coins by breaking the fruits spat out by a Skedaddler multiple times in a row. The Elephant Fruit power-up can be obtained on several levels in the game, and players eager to try it out will be happy to know that it’s available right in the first level of the game: Welcome to the Flower Kingdom.
